Leg Thread Veins
Thread veins (or telangiectasias) are tiny superficial red, blue or purplish blood vessels, which are all too visible to the naked eye.
Thread veins vary in diameter from very tiny red marks with a diameter of ½ mm or less, to larger blue/purple thread veins with a diameter of up to 3mm. However, left untreated, many of the smaller red blood vessels eventually enlarge, developing into the larger blue/purple unsightly type of vessel.
The colour of individual thread veins depends on how much oxygen the red cells in the vessel are carrying. In the smallest vessels, the oxygen content is high, so these tiny vessels appear red in colour, whereas in larger thread veins the amount of oxygen carried in the blood is less, so these vessels appear blue, or even purple in colour.
Leg thread veins can be treated by sclerotherapy or laser therapy. The treatment most appropriate for your particular problem will be discussed with our doctors at the initial consultation.
LASER AND IPL – THREAD VEIN REMOVAL TREATMENTS
Lasers and IPL can be used to remove thread veins on the face, body and legs. Laser treatments will remove fine and large thread veins quickly and effectively and three to five sessions is usually all that is needed to leave your skin feeling smooth and blemish-free. This is a non invasive treatment for veins 1-3 mm in size. We generally recommend on average 5 treatments.
SCLEROTHERAPY – THREAD VEIN REMOVAL TREATMENTS
Sclerotherapy is also effective in removing thread veins from the body and legs – this is a relatively simple non surgical treatment which only takes 30-40 minutes. A very fine needle is used to inject a solution into the vein, which causes it to perish and, over a course of treatments, disappear completely. The number of treatment sessions depends on how many areas need to be treated but we generally recommend on average 4 treatments.
